Marlene Jensen consults on newsletter launches (consumer and business-to-business), including both print newsletters, subscription websites, and e-letters. She looks at entire operations, or just the marketing aspect. Since 1993, she has consulted for newsletter and magazine companies, cable TV, and for entrepreneurs. (See Client List).
As CEO of The Newsletter Group, Jensen has looked at newsletter launches, newsletter makeovers, e-mail and website marketing of newsletters, and direct mail. Jensen advises clients on pricing strategies, including setting up, conducting and reading price tests.
Marlene Jensen is Publisher of The Newsletter on Newsletters, the only independent voice for the newsletter industry.
Jensen is also the author of several books on pricing strategy, including Pricing Psychology Report, 46 Ways to Raise Prices -- Without Losing Sales, and The Tao of Pricing. She is currently working on her doctoral dissertation in pricing strategy.
In her spare time, Jensen teaches pricing, consumer behavior and direct marketing at the Ancel School of Business, Western CT State University, and teaches e-marketing to MBA students at the University of Phoenix Online. She has also taught newsletter publishing at New York University.
In December 1997, Jensen sold Ancillary Profits newsletter, which she launched in 1992. She was editor and publisher of this newsletter which evaluated line extension products for magazines, newsletters and newspapers.
Previously, Jensen was President of Lifestyle Resource, a direct marketing company. Prior to that she headed the magazine division for Maxco Publishing (B-to-B) and for Springhouse Publications (professional magazines), a $25 million, 137-person operation.
In a 9-year career with CBS Magazines, she was publisher of Home Mechanix ($27 million in revenues) and Audio magazines as well as head of magazine acquisitions for the company.
Marlene Jensen has been Chair of the Publishers Committee for the ABP (Association of Business Publishers) and held committee positions at the MPA (Magazine Publishers of America).
She is currently a member of NEPA (Newsletter & Electronic Publishers Assn.) and the Professional Pricing Society.
